Heavy Hitters Boxing Club stands as a beacon of excellence in Chester’s sporting community, founded through the enduring partnership of Steve Goodwin—a revered trainer with decades of experience—and Philip Williams, a determined and principled fighter. What began as a coach-athlete relationship quickly evolved into a shared vision: to build a club where discipline, respect, and skill would be the foundation of every boxer’s journey.

a growing legacy
Under Steve’s guidance, Philip rose through the amateur and professional ranks with grit and heart, reflecting the ethos that would come to define the club. Together, they launched Heavy Hitters in Chester with one goal—to develop champions in and out of the ring. Their passion attracted a growing roster of talented fighters, including British Masters champion Chris Goodwin and Paul Economides, who held titles such as the WBF Intercontinental and the Welsh Area Super Bantamweight belts. Both fighters have contributed immensely to the club’s growing legacy.
Though the club’s roots were firmly planted in Chester, life took an unexpected turn when Philip made the decision to rehome in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, with wife, Clare. What seemed like a challenge became a blessing in disguise. The values and structure built in Chester were soon mirrored in a new facility in Abergavenny, allowing Heavy Hitters to expand and impact a broader community of aspiring fighters.

Today, with Paul Economides now taking on a leadership role as one of the trainers in Chester, also with Isaac Williams assisting Phil at Abergavenny, the club continues to flourish. Heavy Hitters is more than a boxing gym—it is a community built on resilience, excellence, and legacy, shaping fighters not just for competition, but for life.
